When Weeds came out, I couldn’t imagine that there was a better show on television. The concept is outstanding: A recently widowed mother starts selling pot to support her family. Of course it takes more than a concept to make a show, and Weeds delivers.
Initially I fired up my Portland dirct tv every week almost solely because of the setting: the fictional town Agrestic. This town managed to be clever and unique by pointing out just how not clever or unique it was. It represents a town that a large population of Americans live in. This show exposes the underbelly of the so-called perfect suburbia. Then at the end of the 3rd season the writers decided it was a good idea to burn the entire town to the ground.
Now why do I tune in? Well the characters are simply outstanding. I am hooked at this point, and I always loved the main character, Nancy Botwin, who is played by the incredibly attractive Mary-Louse Parker. A ½ hour spent looking at her is time well spent. Aside from her good looks though, she’s one tough chick. She doesn’t take crap from anybody, not even the mayor of Tijuana. Even though this show may have lost a little bit of its flare when they torched Agretic, it’s still rock solid and based around interesting characters.
